Computer animation, or CGI animation, is the process used for generating animated images by using computer graphics. Modern computer animation usually uses 3D computer graphics, and is generally seen as the successor to stop-motion techniques used in traditional animation.
3D Animation Software allows designers and animators to create smooth and fluid, realistic looking graphics that can be used in films, movie shorts, commercials, and much more. Just think of any major action movie blockbuster and you can be sure they are using 3D animation software to create those riveting scenes.
And it’s not just action movies that rely on 3D animation software. Animated films like Toy Story or Monsters Inc. by Pixar use animation software to produce the realistic nature of their characters. Luckily, there are several options for animators who use 3D animation software. While most of the options are paid, there are a few open source options available. Blender is highly recommended open source software that has all the features of your brand-name software!
In order for the human eye to be tricked into seeing smooth movement in an object, the pictures should be drawn at around 12 frames per second. Movie film seen in theaters these days runs at 24 frames per second. (And for reference, traditional hand-drawn cartoon animation is approximately 15 frames per second.)
3D animation software is helpful because it can allow animators to create multiple frames with very minute details easily. It also allows them to string together the various frames seamlessly, and to produce a final product with flawless movement.
Additionally, 3D animation software allows animators to design a full character that can be seen 360 degrees, instead of just one or few angles. By using a skeletal model, the animator is able to completely render the character before setting him into motion into the films. Before the days of software, this had to be done all by hand in a 2D animation, and the same depth and realism was harder to achieve.
